Job Description

The Public Relations & Marketing Manager collaborates regularly with the Managing Director and Artistic Director to ensure a clear and accurate interpretation of PRIME’s vision and direction. This role focuses on growing new audiences while retaining and deepening relationships with current audiences. Through effective communication of the mission, vision, and programming activities, the PR & Marketing Manager develops and executes strategies to generate all earned ticket revenues for the theatre by overseeing marketing, public relations, audience development, and PRIME’s public brand. The PR & Marketing Manager plays a role in PRIME’s strategic planning initiatives.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Supervise the planning and implementation of all marketing, public relations, and communications to raise funding and support for PRIME’s artistic programming and day-to-day operations

  • Shape public perception of PRIME through execution of brand identity through print
    communications, publications, electronic media, media relations, public events, and physical spaces

  • Work as part of PRIME leadership on short- and long-term strategic planning

  • Develop community ties and serve on Board committees to further develop the profile of arts wherever PRIME goes

  • Expand public relations efforts to increase local, regional, and national awareness of the PRIME’s mission and programming

  • Collaborate to improve the patrons’ experience of PRIME

  • Research the attitudes and opinions of the public as relates to PRIME and its offerings.

  • Help shape the company season in partnership with the Artistic Director and Managing Director

  • Write, edit and produce press releases, calendar listings, email campaigns, social media content, direct marketing pieces and other marketing material

  • Field and respond to media inquiries generated by those releases, or regarding a specific production or event

  • Serve as a spokesperson within the arts community as needed

  • Develop communication objectives and communication plans

  • Identify the most important audiences, and decide what to communicate to them and the best media to use

  • Cultivate and maintain media contacts in order to generate relevant stories, interviews and other media coverage for the company

  • Solicit, arrange and organize media interviews (print, radio and TV) for general stories about the company

  • Organize and/or promote promotional events and conferences

  • Coordinate and oversee photo sessions for public relations and marketing purposes

  • Coordinate handling of reviewers, including contacting them, securing comp tickets, and compiling press packets

  • Maintain and update the company's website, or work closely with the person who does this

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of two years experience with a nonprofit or for-profit organization in a marketing or communications role. Experience with social media, fundraising, and arts organizations is highly desirable;

  • Be flexible with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will be able to work successfully under pressure and meet deadlines and goals

  • Successfully understand and communicate PRIME’s unique brand and show concepts with press releases, social media campaigns, advertising, and other marketing mediums;

  • Exhibit stamina and a strong work ethic, as well as the flexibility and compassion to work through unpredictable pressures alongside the team;

  • Be a highly motivated self-starter with strong writing skills and experience with Google Docs;

  • Be able to speak and write eloquently and persuasively, and to serve as a spokesperson for the company in public, to the media, and on social media;

  • Have experience and knowledge of marketing, advertising and public relations activities, particularly as they relate to growing ticket and other earned income revenue;

  • Demonstrate a passion for theatre, storytelling, and the connection between art and a community
