TechnICal Manager

Job Description
The Technical Manager collaborates regularly with the Managing Director to ensure technical elements of all productions are planned, implemented, and executed within budgetary and operational parameters. The Technical Manager coordinates between lighting, sound, set and other crews as well as with the Stage and Production Manager to ensure actor safety and fulfillment of the artistic vision. The Technical Manager plays a role in PRIME’s strategic planning initiatives.

This position is currently a volunteer position, but may pay a stipend on a per-show basis.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of PRIME, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of all rented facilities

  • Determines the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates

  • Assists designers, artists, and production staff with technical matters

  • Advises production teams and designers on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervises the implementations of approved technical designs

  • Supervises and assists with set and stage construction and management

  • Assists in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff for individual shows

  • Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment

  • Work as part of PRIME leadership on short- and long-term strategic planning

  • Help shape the company season in partnership with the Artistic Director and Managing Director

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of two years experience with a nonprofit or for-profit organization in a production role. Experience with construction, electrics, and sound equipment is highly desirable;

  • Be flexible with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will be able to work successfully under pressure and meet deadlines and goals

  • Exhibit stamina and a strong work ethic, as well as the flexibility and compassion to work through unpredictable pressures alongside the team;

  • Be a highly motivated self-starter with strong writing skills and experience with Google Docs;

  • Demonstrate a passion for theatre, storytelling, and the connection between art and a community
